Women (and lots of people) dig matcha for a few reasons:

- Loads of antioxidants
- Looks aesthetic in photos

The popularity's been pretty steady for a few years now. Might stick around since it's got actual health benefits, not just a random trend. Probably won't totally disappear, but could become less instagram-viral over time.
