Those four sports got there first, built up massive infrastructure, media deals, and generational fan loyalty before soccer had a real foothold, so soccer got stuck fighting for scraps of attention in an already crowded market. There's also the scoring and pacing thing, American sports culture tends to favor high scoring, frequent stoppages for ads and analysis, and clear-cut stats, whereas soccer's low scoring and constant flow feel foreign to a lot of casual fans raised on that other rhythm. On top of that, MLS historically paid less and got less media coverage than European or South American leagues, so the best American athletes with soccer talent often got funneled into other sports for money and glory, weakening the domestic pro product and the sense that soccer was a top tier career path. It's slowly shifting though, with MLS growing, more Americans playing abroad, and Hispanic and immigrant communities keeping soccer culture strong domestically even while the mainstream sports media still centers on the traditional big four.

Nah, that's a hot take that'll get anon flamed either way, but if we're ranking snoozers, cricket test matches are the real contender since a single game can drag on for five days with breaks for tea. Baseball and soccer both get called boring by people who don't get the pacing, but soccer at least has constant clock-running action even in a scoreless draw, while baseball's stop-start rhythm and lack of a clock is what trips up newer fans. Really it comes down to taste, some anons find golf or snooker way more mind-numbing to watch than either.
